pirates....... still?
It is ignorant to believe that pirates are a thing of the past. They are a very relevant threat to the shipping industry still today.
This article covers an incident in which the Indian Navy intercepted a ship suspected to be crewed by pirates. The Navy was successful in rescuing 24 passengers from the Prantalay-11, which had been seized by the pirates.
Strangely, this was the second rescue performed by the Indian Navy in a span of less than two weeks. January 28, 15 pirates were arrested and 20 Thailand fishermen were rescued.
When I hear the word 'pirate' I immediately think of the infamous Captain Hook. I have to remind myself that today's pirates are nothing like the fairy-tales I grew up with. They aren't bright and colorful and afraid of crocodiles who tick/tock. However, they are indeed ruthless and criminal. Much of the ocean is unprotected by the police, which of course, is ideal for anyone with intentions that are not in alignment with the law... Pirates today are excellent examples of the corruption of man and the extremes he will go to for power.
